Ayurveda describes vrana (wound) as tissue destruction and discoloration of viable tissue due to various causes. In the Ayurveda classic, Sushruta Samhita, wound is described as a main subject, and vrana has been classified into shuddha and dushta vrana, that is chronic non-healing wounds. Despite several advances made, the management of chronic wounds is still a challenge. Sushruta was aware of the challenge of wound management and has described Shashthi Upakramas (sixty measures) for vrana ropana (wound healing).
