Can a simple, ancient nasal cleaning technique help in prevention of Co-vid-19?
The doctors from Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital in Pune say “Yes”
Jalaneti, an ancient yogic nasal cleaning practice with drinking water and a specially designed pot has helped many doctors and frontline healthcare workers stay safe in the high risk environments of the covid-19 fighting hospitals.
RECOMMENDED BY THE DOCTORS
At a time when our frontline medical warriors are preyed upon by the deadly virus, Dr. Sameer Jog, a consultant intensivist, speaking to the Pune Mirror claimed to have come in dangerously close proximity to some patients but has so far remained unaffected. He and his colleagues at the hospital credit an ancient Indian practice called “Jalaneti” for their safety.
Dr. Dhananjay Khelkar, another doctor from the same Pune based hospital claimed that of the 4500 staff from the hospital 600 had practiced “Jalaneti” and only 22 were affected by the virus and all of those 22 were people who did not practice the technique at all or did not follow it up regularly.
They are expecting an ongoing research to give evidence based positive conclusions in three months’ time.
ENDORSED BY THE AYUSH MINISTRY
Jalaneti was also recommended in the circular titled “Guidelines for Yoga Practitioners for COVID-19” from the “Ministry of AYUSH”, Government of India as a practice for the prevention of Covid-19. The ministry had recommended an at least ‘twice a week’ practice for commoners. The doctors at Deenanath Hospital, however, have taken up the practice as a daily routine and recommend the same.
So this ancient wonder technique surely provides the practitioners with wonderful benefits and keeps them safe from not just Covid-19 but also from other flu and respiratory illness. It is also a good technique to practice highest nasal hygiene at the time of such pandemics.
